shamPoo & Conditioner for all hair types.

How do you choose shampoo and conditioner? Is there a certain aroma that captures your senses? A packaging that catches your eye? Was it recommended by your stylist? Are you on a budget?

No worries! I’m here to help! I am going to recommend shampoos and conditioners for:

  • All Hair Types

  • All Budgets

  • Color Safe

  • Volumizing/Thickening

  • Moisturizing

  • Damage Repair

Once upon a time, I was a licensed cosmetologist. Licensed for nineteen years, practicing for 11 of those. I attended the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2004 at age 18. Maybe with a bit of bias, I do believe in Aveda products from every aspect. It is a bit on the “out of budget” end of the spectrum, but, hey, you get what you pay for and each and every product works as claimed. These products are mostly derived from the earth and the company does its part to give back to the environment.

That being said, I am experienced with using other products as well. Along the way, I have found a few favorites with Redken, Pureology, Biolage, Bed Head, Seacret and more.

I find it important to rotate your shampoos and conditioners according to the opportunities for your hair and scalp.

Please! Stop before buying that drugstore or health & beauty aisle brand shampoo and conditioner! Especially if you have salon treated hair! Think about it. How much do you spend on getting that hair cut and color or perm or conditioning treatment, etc...? it’s definitely in the $$ digits for the good salons. Then you go to the drugstore and spend $10-$20 on a product that’s going to wreke havoc on  that color or whatever treatment you have had. Not to mention, the build up after build up it will leave on your hair strands and dry it out so bad leaving you buying a cheap and awful moisturizing shampoo and conditioner that will cause a whole other set of opportunities. Then, you find yourself back with your stylist to give your hair some love when you should have just followed the recommendation in the first place! It’s a vicious cycle.

So, why not break the cycle and invest in the good stuff from the beginning. Take the recommendations seriously! If the products at the salon are a bit out of your budget, it’s ok! Just ask your stylist. I’m sure they would be happy to help find something that is within the wallets comfort level. Ask for samples if you want to try before you buy! They would rather see you taking care of your hair than in their chair more frequently because you aren’t.

Redken

Redken is professional hair care at a more affordable price. These shampoos and conditioners are some of my personal favorites amongst this line. They have a great aroma; not overly synthetic. They work well at what they claim to accomplish with your hair needs! The vibrant packaging colors are appealing to the eye.

Extreme Length Shampoo & Conditioner

Great for hair growth! It is biotin and castor oil infused to help strengthen  damaged hair so it can grow longer. This set is great for all hair types, because, let’s be real, we all have a bit of damage!

I personally use Extreme Length Shampoo & Conditioner and visibly see the accelerated growth, and feel the lightweight nourishment it provides.

All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner

Hair dry and brittle? Soften and shine it up with this Argan Oil enriched formula! It adds intense instant moisture making it 7X easier to detangle and 7X more moisturizing. Your hair will feel so soft, silky, and smooth.

All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner is designed for fine to medium hair types in need of moisture and nourishment. It is suitable for color treated hair as well, leaving it protected, vibrant, soft and hydrated. All Soft gives hair that desirable and supple bounce with a subtle and pleasant aroma.

Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo & Conditioner

Need to prevent color from fading? Getting your hair done is not light on the wallet. Why not invest in something that will care for your color in between salon visits?

This is a sulfate and paraben free duo. It’s formulated with soy protein, arginine and amino ions to seal in color. While protecting your color, it adds structure, helps balance the pH levels, providing a thicker look with more volume and adds a soft, smooth and conditioned feel.

Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo & Conditioner is a great way to maintain that beautiful color while strengthening and increasing manageability. What more could you ask for in a shampoo and conditioner?

 Aveda

Oh, Aveda. What can I say? It’s the best in my opinion.

I think it’s the aroma’s that come to mind first when you hear this brand name. You will find aromas from earthy and herbal to floral and fruity. There’s something for everyone designed to balance you and your chakras. Sometimes the scent that is appealing to you today, is not as appealing to you next week.

Aveda is an environmentally conscious company that reflects through their product. They are plant powered hair care rooted in nature. Aveda’s products are 100% vegan and naturally derived, high performing formulas.

Aveda Shampure Shampoo & Conditioner for nourishing.

Aveda’s signature aroma- a calming blend of 25 pure flower and plant essences- and it’s fabulous! It’s a gentle formula for every day use providing long lasting weightless nourishment with Abyssinian oil.

Shampure shampoo and conditioner set has been and always will be my favorite daily duo. The aroma fumigates the shower and takes you to such a calming and relaxing place. It leaves the hair bouncy and soft.

Aveda Rosemary Mint Purifying Shampoo for clarifying.

Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo is a purifying shampoo that gently clarifies hair, leaving it feeling squeaky clean, reset and shiny. The balance of rosemary and mint leaves gives it a gentle yet invigorating aroma. Great for the morning shower and energy burst. Micelles gently remove product buildup and impurities while white vinegar helps to purify. Naturally derived lightweight conditioner helps prevent tangles and static, leaving hair feeling full of weightless body and shine.

Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner is great to alternate with the Shampure as a daily shampoo and conditioner.

Aveda Cherry Almond Softening Shampoo & Conditioner for deep conditioning.

Need some serious conditioning and shine restoration? Grab some Cherry Almond softening shampoo and conditioner.

Babassu and coconut-derived ingredients deeply, yet gently cleanse hair while maintaining healthy lipids and oils. Naturally-derived cherry blossom and sweet almond oil restore softness and shine from roots to ends leaving hair feeling touch-ably soft and full of weightless bounce.

The aroma, in Aveda’s Cherry Almond Softening Shampoo and Conditioner, alone, is enough to condition your chakra and take you to a beautiful field of cherry blossom trees.

Aveda Color Control Shampoo and Conditioner for Color Treated Hair

Need to prevent that beautiful color job from fading?

This shampoo and conditioner duo is formulated with apricot oil to nourish and smooth and seal the cuticle to lock in your color and leave your hair with a beautiful shine. Dual charged molecules create a protective shield to prevent water from penetrating into the hair strands reducing color washout.  It has neutralizing powers with naturally derived “magnets” that instantly balance color dulling particles to protect your hair when washed.

Let’s also mention the aroma created from osmanthus, certified organic orange, cypress, cedar wood and other pure flower and plant essences.

Don’t hesitate! Protect that color with Aveda Color Control Shampoo and Conditioner that leaves your hair with a beautiful, weightless and bouncy shine while smelling fabulous!

Seacret

There’s a little something out there for every hair type from fine and wispy to thick and textured. Color treated? No problem! Textured? Piece of cake! Need to amp up the volume? Got it! They are a bit more than those unnamed drug store brands that work not so hard to destroy your hair over time. Think about the worth of your hair to you and the little investment it takes to treat it right! Love your locks and they’ll love you back!

Try a few of these other favorites specifically formulated for your needs:

Blonde Maintenance: Aveda Blonde Revival Purple Toning Shampoo & Conditioner

Super Moisture: Aveda Sap Moss Weightless Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner

Smooth the Frizz: Aveda Smooth Infusion Anti Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner

Hair Thinning: Aveda Invati Advanced Shampoo & Conditioner

TIPS:

How can you tell if you need moisture or damage control? Simple. Test a single strand of your hair. Pull it apart from the mid shaft. If it stretches and then snaps, you need moisture. If it just snaps, you need that damage control!

Want to add longevity to the beautiful color job? Your stylist did spend a few  hours creating it and you probably paid a few bucks  to have it done! Yes, using a color sealing shampoo and conditioner is step one. Next step, wash and rinse your hair in cooler water.  The cooler the better. When you rinse your hair with hot water, the hair strand blasts open releasing those color molecules and causes fading. When you rinse with cooler water, you are sealing those hair strands and locking in the color better. This also creates a bit more shine!
